Switching between curly and straight

Long post but as I grow my hair back from chemo my plan was to sometimes wear ir curly....which I never did and sometimes straighten it. I heard someone say this is not advisable bc the heat will alter the curl pattern. Is this true? Or does it depend on how you care for it and products?

If you're using extreme heat, ie the flat iron or blow dryer on the highest setting, then yes, eventually you will get heat damage. This will cause your hair to become more porous and your curls will loosen. It can lead to breakage as well.

If you're not trying to get bone straight hair then you can try a couple of methods:

1. Roller sets. This is the gentlest way to straighten your hair since you're stretching your hair in rollers and sitting under the dryer. It takes longer, but your hair will also be smoother and healthier for it.

2. Curl or wave formers. This is similar to roller sets, except you're not using rollers.

3. Tension method and your blow dryer. Instead of using a comb or brush, you're simply using tension on your hair to straighten it. You want your dryer to be on medium to low heat. This is faster than sitting under the dryer, but your hair won't be as smooth. This avoids heat and mechanical damage.
